Actors

I have been considering my actors for a while now 

I have been looking for 3 people to make up a band. I wanted to be 2 boys and 1 girl for my band. Many days the actual are usually boys and the lead singer in a girl, like the band Paramore. I am doing the same for my band

They are Georgia Kelly, Jack Frame and Joe Bouchard. 

Tuesday 25th November

Today i started brainstorming different names of my magazine.

Monday 24th November

Last week i was working on my own layout for my magazine
I have drawn out a rough draft of about 58 of the pages. This give me an idea of how my magazine would pan out and look on a larger scale then just a two page spread.


Unfortunately the scanner was too small to do the A3 sheet in one this is why it is split into two parts.

Thursday 13th November

For the past few weeks i have been focusing on my planning section this is why i haven't written anything on my blog. I have started looking at layout and grid system for my magazine. The grid system is used inside magazines because the front cover has its own conventions. 

Different magazines has different grid systems which contribute to their house style. For example Q uses the 3 grid system for many of its pages. 

This is an example from Q October 2008. I have drawn the grid system onto the page to show how it works. The arrows in between the text are called alleys. I have shown with the black box with a cross through it that this would stand out too much because it doesn't go with the rest of the page. 

Most magazines do a detailed layout for their whole magazines this helps the magazine keep to a house style and to see the bigger picture on how the magazine will turn out.

This is an example i found. This magazine has no text it just as photos.

Monday 20th October

This weekend i went to my location to take some photos and see if it would work for what i want to do.
I chose St Brelades beach in Jersey.

Friday 17th October

For my locations i have started looking at different locations around Jersey.
I especially liked the beaches in Jersey they are beautiful and i could do a lot of different shots and angles with them.

This is Plemont beach i like this beach because of the rocks and i could do a lot with them and do different shots and levels with my actors.
There are things i have to consider with using the beach like the tides and weather.
I would like to use this for my two page spread possibly.
For my front cover i am considering just a plain white background with quite bright clothing to show off the fashion side of my magazine.

Thursday 16th October

This lesson i have started looking at magazine covers and started thinking about my final front cover. I am going to start looking at locations and actors for this and sketch my ideas of what i would like my layout to look at. Since using Adobe Photoshop i have developed to use photoshop correctly i will continue using photoshop on my final piece.

Wednesday 8th October

This lesson i have done my front page for my preliminary exercise i used the inspiration of the original Jersey College for Girls magazine. It is always very simple and catches the eye of the reader.

I used a medium close up shot of a classmate as the front cover with her becoming head girl of 2008.I liked the backdrop of the photo it is very simple but quite colour full with the trees. I preferred using an actual student for the front cover i think it links to the whole magazine as the magazine is about students. I gave the magazine a bar code even though the usual magazine is free. I wanted to see how to place so that it no very noticeable. 

Monday 6th October

For the past few lessons i have been working on my preliminary exercise for my magazine. I first went around the school taking shots of different students in classes and around the school working.
I selected a few photos to use in my contents page. I used another contents page. 

I chose to write CONTENTS quite bold and have the bold red line running across i think it is very eye catching and simple.   

I curved the edges of the photos to give it a more professional look and used a simple font for the page numbers.

Thursday 25th September

For the past two lesson have been experimenting with photo shop, and i have noticed that i need to choose my photo carefully if i want to do certain things. For example with the photo i used i wanted i create a white background using the tool 'magic wand' tool. However because the background was the very busy with different colours the magic wand didn't work completely. Therefore i needed to use the rubber to wipe out the rest of the background
I have learned from this that i need to use a photo with a plain background so that i can use photo shop easier, and give it a more professional look.

I used the inspiration of this cover to base my practise so i could get the idea 

Tuesday 24th September

Today i started using the school camera's. I worked in a group in two. We went around the school and took photos so next lesson we could select one to practise on photoshop. Here are some examples of photo's we took and i liked.

Monday 22nd September

Today i looked at different articles in magazine to get inspiration
I looked especially at article where i could incorporate fashion with the music

I like the layout of the article, its clear and easy to read. I especially like the use of smaller photos on one page with text and then the other page is a portrait shot of the actor
With the three smaller photo's i like the contrast with black and white photos with ones full of colour





These photos were all used in the Teen Vogue article on young Hollywood i like how all the photos are different and unique
I like how they have thing going on inside of them and that they are busy. The are unusual because many articles try to keep their photo's simple and clear.


This article focuses more on information rather than the photo.The writing is all clear and easy to read and the title is bold so it catches your eye.

Monday 15th September

This lesson i focused on the contents page and who my audience will be 

This contents page is from MOJO a UK based music magazine

I like this contents i like how its quite effective but because of the bright background you  take interest in it. 

The photo of the two people i

s very simple the writing is quite clear and easy to read i like the contrast of the red with the white (the pages numbers in red and the writing in white). 

There isn't 

much there and that's why i like it 

This contents page is a lot different there is more information 

condensed into one page. 

The photo used is a simple one focusing on the cover story (this being Oasis). 

However there is a smaller one at the bottom. This contents is well known in that Q use this layout often and it works. The writing is easy to read 

This contents page is from the magazine GQ as magazine which focuses on music along with other interests 

I like the way the word contents goes behind the photo. Also the writing is clear and easy to read. I also like how the writing looks as if it is part of the photo i like this effect. 

I have decided to focus my magazine at the male female market in the age bracket on 16- 27. I gives a large audience so you can do different article to different audience. 

Friday 5th September

For our first few lessons we watched work from other AS Students the work ranged from grades C-E grades. None of these were perticaly brillaint therefore we learnt how not to make our film.
We also watched the introduction to the film SEVEN(spelt. SE7EN). This showed us how simple an introduction can be and how the right camera angles and lighting can give the film the right atmoshpere for the rest fo the film
The other choice we were given instead of doing an introduction to a film was beling able to create a front cover,contents page and two page spread of a music magazine. I am going to focus more on the music magazine rather than film.

Tuesday 9th September

Today i started my research by looking at covers for my magazine i look at a selection of magazine and also the internet. I looked especially at music magazine, i chose some which appealed to me and ones that had certain differences which weren't as appealing to me.


I liked this cover because of the contrast of the colours between the actaual photo and the logo of the magazine. The writing is very easy to read and is very simple so you know what they are talking about. The Q being a very iconic symbol is very large and bold i like it because it shows what magazine it is clearly. I like the photo Liam Gallager looks deep in thought its appealing to everyone its not a bold statement. Also Oasis are such an iconic band so he is known worldly. The cover is very simple with very little writing.




I like this cover becuase compared to the Q it colourful and very playful. It more of a fun cover because the girls seem to be having fun. Whalst the Liam Gallager shot is more serious and looks as if he is deep in thought. The Rolling Stone cover is very similar as the Q cover in that there isnt much writing and is quite simple. The Q cover which has a contrast of colour and very plain. However the writing is bold and able to read.
